DAI Casinos

DAI is a dollar token that no company issues. It was launched in 2017 by a lending protocol on Ethereum, where anyone who locks enough collateral in its smart contracts can mint DAI against it. Few cashiers carry it: DAI appears at 11 of the casinos in our reviews, 9 of them crypto-native and 2 hybrid, so the list below is short and every name on it is worth comparing.

For each of them the list records who licenses it, how much it pays out and how often, when it may ask for identification, and whether a deposit must be played through first. The sections after it explain how DAI holds its peg, the name change that left it running beside a successor, what sending it involves, and how its record against the dollar compares with the two larger stablecoins.

Where DAI is accepted on this site, what keeps this dollar token near its peg, and how far from one dollar it actually drifted in a year.

Collateral Instead of a Bank Reserve

USDT and USDC are backed by reserves their issuers hold, and each issuer pays a dollar back for every token its verified customers return. DAI works the other way round: each one is a debt, created when someone locks collateral worth more than the DAI they borrow, and destroyed when the loan is repaid. If the collateral loses value, the position is sold off before it can fall below the DAI it backs. The collateral began as crypto alone and now also includes tokenized government debt and other stablecoins.

There is no issuer to hand a dollar back, so DAI keeps its peg through the market and through a module that swaps it against another stablecoin at a fixed rate. That design spreads the risk differently from a reserve token: no single company can fail, but the peg leans on the value of the collateral and on the contracts running correctly.

In 2024 the protocol behind DAI renamed itself Sky and launched a successor token, USDS, into which DAI can be upgraded one for one. DAI was not withdrawn, and both now circulate side by side.

Watch for: DAI and USDS are separate tokens with separate contracts. A cashier that lists DAI credits DAI only, so a wallet that has upgraded its balance to USDS needs to switch it back before depositing.

DAI Against the Dollar

DAI stayed close to a dollar all year, but it strayed further than either reserve-backed token, and it is the only one of the three that closed a day more than half a percent away. For a casino balance the gap is small next to any volatile coin; the stablecoins guide sets all three against every other coin on these pages.

Sending DAI to a Casino

Casinos that list DAI almost always mean the ERC-20 token on Ethereum. The deposit address starts with 0x, needs no memo, and is final roughly 13 minutes after Ethereum includes it in a block.

The fee is Ethereum gas, and it is paid in ETH, not in DAI. A wallet holding DAI and nothing else cannot move it, so a small amount of ETH has to sit beside the DAI before the first deposit. Gas is priced by the work a transfer needs, not by its value, so the fee does not shrink with the amount, and a modest deposit bears all of it.

Bridged copies of DAI also exist on other Ethereum-compatible networks, and they share the same 0x address format, which is how they get sent to the wrong place. Telling those networks apart is a question for every 0x coin, answered once on the Ethereum casinos page.

Pro Tip
Check that your wallet holds some ETH as well as DAI before opening the cashier. Without it the transfer cannot be sent, and buying ETH at that moment adds a fee and a delay.

What a Short List Means

With only 11 casinos on this site taking DAI, too few state a DAI-specific minimum deposit or withdrawal for a typical figure to mean anything. Their limits are mostly a single dollar or euro figure covering any coin, and each casino's row in the list carries its own.

The short list is the main practical drawback of the coin. A player who keeps savings in DAI and plays at a casino that does not take it has to swap into another token first, paying an exchange fee and a second network fee on the way in, and the same again on the way out. The conditions a withdrawal has to meet before any coin leaves, from deposit wagering to monthly caps, are the business of the withdrawals guide.

DAI Casinos FAQ

Not safer, differently exposed. USDT and USDC rest on one company keeping its reserves and honoring redemptions; DAI depends on its collateral holding value and its contracts working as written. At a casino the larger risk is the same for all three: the balance is held by the casino, and its terms decide when it can leave.

No. The protocol pays a savings rate only on DAI deposited into its own savings contract by the holder. A casino balance is a claim on the casino, which holds the coins in its own wallets, so nothing accrues to the player however long the balance stays.

The system is built to sell the collateral of any loan that falls toward the value of the DAI it backs, which keeps each token covered in an ordinary fall. In a very fast crash those sales can lag, and DAI can trade away from a dollar for a time, in either direction, until the market settles.

Often not. Every DAI transfer on Ethereum pays gas in ETH whatever its size, so on a busy day the fee can take a noticeable share of a small deposit, and again of a small withdrawal. A stablecoin on a cheaper network, such as USDT on TRON, keeps more of a small amount.
