Live Baccarat
Baccarat is the game that fills the most seats in a live studio and the one with the least to decide: a player bets on Player, Banker or Tie, two hands are dealt by fixed rules, and the higher total wins. The baccarat hub covers the drawing rules, the history and the strategies; this page prices the bets as the live tables deal them, from an eight-deck shoe, and explains the one rule that differs between tables, the Banker commission.
Every figure below is counted from the shoe by enumerating every order the cards can come out in. Nothing about a live table changes those counts; what the studios vary is the payout schedule and the presentation.

Every Bet on the Table
Eight decks, exact enumeration. The Banker bet pays 0.95:1 because a 5% commission is deducted from a winning Banker bet; the Tie pays 8:1 at most studios and 9:1 at a few, and the pay table on the felt says which.
The Commission and the Table Without It
The Banker hand wins 45.86% of hands and the Player hand 44.62%, the rest being ties, because the Banker draws last and its drawing rule reacts to the Player's third card. Paid at even money, Banker would be a bet in the player's favour; the 5% commission on a winning Banker bet is what turns it into the 1.06% edge in the table, still the cheapest bet in the game. Player, with no commission and the weaker hand, costs 1.24%.
A no-commission table pays Banker at even money and instead pays a winning Banker total of 6 at 1:2. That winning 6 comes up often enough that the bet costs 1.46%, more than the commission table's Banker and more than Player. The table is sold as commission-free; it is a different commission, collected on one total instead of all of them, and the arithmetic says it is the larger of the two.
Tie, Pairs and the Side Bets
A tie lands on 9.52% of hands, about once in 10.51, and at 8:1 the bet costs 14.36%. At 9:1, which some studios offer, it costs 4.84%, still several times the main bets. The pair bets, on the first two cards of either hand matching in rank, land 7.47% of the time each and cost 10.36% at 11:1; Either Pair at 5:1 costs 13.71%.
The newer studio tables add drawn multipliers on top of these: Lightning Baccarat charges a fee on every bet and multiplies a win when a lightning card is dealt, and the golden and prosperity tables do the same with their own names. As with every drawn multiplier on these pages, the fee and the payout are the studio's rules and the return is whatever the studio states inside the game; the bets underneath are the ones in the table above.
Squeeze, Speed and the Formats
A squeeze table lets the dealer, or the player who has bet most on a hand, turn the cards over slowly, corner first; it changes nothing but the pace, and the pace is the point. Speed Baccarat shortens the betting window to a few seconds and deals a hand in under half a minute. Both are the same shoe at the same price per hand, and since the edge is paid per hand, a speed table costs more an hour and a squeeze table less.
What to look for: The pay table on the felt decides everything: Banker at 0.95:1 or even money with a 6 rule, Tie at 8:1 or 9:1. Two lines, and the price of the table is known.
Live Baccarat FAQ
Banker, at about 1.06% on an eight-deck shoe with the standard 5% commission. Player costs about 1.24% and the Tie far more.
No. Paying a winning Banker 6 at 1:2 instead of taking 5% costs about 1.46%, more than either main bet on the commission table.
About 9.5% of hands, roughly once in ten. At 8:1 the Tie bet costs over 14%.
Very little. Live tables deal from eight decks and the figures here are for eight; a six-deck shoe moves the main bets by hundredths of a point.
Only the choice of bet. The drawing rules are fixed, so the only decision is Banker, Player or Tie, and Banker is the cheapest of the three.
